The Bamboo Series
In Eastern societies, bamboo grows everywhere and this natural material is utilised in every single aspects of our lives. People take for granted. in other words, our use of bamboo is an example of generalised human behaviour towards natural resources and hoe we treat our environment.
The association of bamboo as a cultural symbol of the East is now widely accepted in Western societies. This cultural symbolism can be used as a metaphor to represent me, a foreign artist who is living and working in British society. The representation of my work can tell the story of my journey in Britain and reflect the differences in values, perceptions and treatment between cultures.
As a silversmith/metal artist who is working in the UK applied arts, I am constantly producing highly decorative, craftily made, beautiful objects with function. I now want to use my work to create an awareness of social contexts among craft audiences via exploration of the different perspectives of Western and Eastern cultures in modern Britain.
